Welcome to my site! I live in Burnley, UK, with my wife Victoria, our canine children, and our hens.
On this site I write notes and longer articles about learning to code, exploring, following Burnley FC around the country, and training and racing. I snap images along the way, that appear in my dedicated snaps section. I also record all of my training, run, ride, swim, climb, walk and weigh-in data.
I've been working on an update for the last week, I can now write yml powered activity type posts without polluting my main rss feed. Books, TV & Films, Gaming, Places, Puzzles... Coming next, a series of articles on implementing webmentions in PureBlog.
I took a little time today to write a new about page.
I find writing about me painful. Hopefully its an open and fair representation of me and what I talk about on my site. Either way, it has an ace new intro photo!
As I woke up early and could not get back to sleep, I've extended the syndication functionality of my PureBlog website to discover endpoints for links in posts, and to send webmentions to them. Here is a local webmention working on my site:
A quick post to test local webmention send to an article I wrote a while ago. Received?
My website will now directly post to both my Mastodon and Bluesky profiles whenever I save a post to published. I didn't expect to be able to do either, so am pretty pleased with that.
Quick test post with image. Ignore.
Does this land on both mastodon and bsky?
Here's bayLee, hunting for mice on his walk this evening.
When the first goal went in for them, you could see us fall away. You can’t fold like we did in that final 30 minutes. Scott Parker
Fold? we assisted MGW's first, left him unmarked for the next two, and were then outtrun from halfway. Fold does not come close.
Sorry for all the test quote posts, hopefully this one is curtains...
I've tweaked Kev's instructions for posting titleless PureBlog posts directly to mastodon to hopefully include all post types.
For the first time ever I now have my entire training log on my website, and last night I created this data analysis to show total training volume v discipline by year, and by point in year.
Not quite POSSE, I'd like to be able to actually import, map out, and analyses the gpx files in future.
I am worried about the impact on speed, so need to try to work out how to replicate this using yaml.
As the roadmap for my PureBlog migration moves towards a close, I obviously keep finding more, and more complex, things to add to it. I've started htaccess redirects from longform articles on my original domain now, and I'm exploring importing some discussions into PureComments.
I need to avoid averaging 202W if I want to avoid Echofeed double posting my training activities using my micropost echo title rule. I'll worry more if I start averaging 202bpm!
Using the hooks provided by Pure Blog I was able to set up my blog to automatically commit and push my /content directory to a private repo to keep a backup of all of my content in the event of a disaster on my VPS.

I've added some data analysis into my training log so that it can total up and average out across months and years - only from 2024 onwards until I format and add earlier data.
Back on the track at Seedhill tonight for more pain. Thankfully an icy shower just passed through.
I've fixed the color scheme of my rebuilt website in lightmode. A nice shade of Burnley claret now, not a royal blue and white belonging in a dark circle on the map, 13 miles away.
Lovely evening for first wednesday summer hill-rep session out back of Alkincoats Park from HHP.
I've added two functions to my PureBlog install, to extract the first image, and the first description or first paragraph in a post, with a custom header.php using them for opengraph. I need to copy two files into my install after each update - feed and header.
I've managed to reformat and simplify the content from my Kirby CMS and 11ty installs, test, and upload today, and improve my archive layouts a little. I have some housekeeping to do, and I need to trim taxonomies, but I'm really happy with how this afternoon's work has gone.
For once, I'm going to remember to turn echofeed off before importing the first 21 years of content into this site. No idea will happen on RSS though!
Hopefully see you on the other side!
