Railroad Tycoon II - Map 02 - Handle on the Breadbasket

Playing through the second map of Railroad Tycoon II, on macOS, using the PlayOnMac Windows emulator. This map simulates the building of the first railways across the Appalachians, by building a railway from New York City to Chicago.

There are probably many possible strategies by which to succeed at this map, and several routes across the Appalachians. It makes sense though to use the route north already started for you, combining it with some short haul routes to nearby conurbations to generate more meaningful revenue in the early years, and a better shot at gold medal completion.
